Wood's Meat Processing

Wood’s Meat Processing is a USDA Inspected slaughter, processing and smokes meats operation located in Sandpoint Idaho.  We offer custom processing for producers who have raised their own animals for home use or for resale.  We work hand in hand with labeling and processing of their own animals.

Our history

The Wood V-X Ranch was founded in 1940 by Riley and Gladys Wood in the Gold Creek area north of Sandpoint.  The V-X (pronounced V bar X) brand was registered with the State of Idaho in 1941 as the hot brand to identify live cattle.  In the mid 50’s the original 960-acre ranch property was purchased by Jim and Virginia Wood who expanded the ranch in the Gold Creek area. As the next generation, consisting of four sons and one daughter, came on board with their spouses the Ranch was expanded to the Selle Valley.  All Family members have been involved as the Ranch has grown.

The Ranch maintains approximately 500 mother cows in four herds consisting of: Registered Red Angus and commercial Red Angus owned by Leonard and Nami Wood and Ben and Dana Wood: a commercial herd of Black and Red Angus owned by Steve and Louise Wood; a commercial herd of Black and Charolais owned by Todd and Jody Russell and Shawn Russell; a small registered herd of Black Angus owned by Bradley Russell.

Several family businesses operate on the Ranch: Wood’s Meat Processing, Wood’s Crushing and Hauling, Wood V-X Red Angus, Western Pleasure Guest Ranch, Wood’s Hay and Grain, Valley Studio Photography, Selle Valley Cardon School, Custom Haying and Sustainable Logging.

Inspection and Sanitation

Wood’s Meat Processing maintains the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation at all times. Each animal is inspected by full time USDA Inspector to ensure a safe wholesome product.

Wood's Meat Processing Today

Today Wood’s Meat Processing is co-owned by Steve and Louise’s daughter, Jody Russell and son-in-law Todd Russell.  We maintain a work force of approximately 20 employees including other family members and several long-time employees.  The employees are considered to be our greatest asset and have a combined meat processing experience of over 300 years. Most of that time was at Wood’s Meat Processing.
